Finding any kind of base product is tough, especially the right foundation. The most important tip is to take care of your skin. I come across so many young girls and women who are not properly looking after their skin and are just looking for a foundation to cover up what they want gone. That in itself is not a solution to a problem, it’s just putting a band-aid on it. Everything we put on and in our body will show, and if it doesn’t, it will show as we age. Honestly, I could do a whole post on skin care but let’s save that for another day.
The best way of finding the right foundation for you is to know your skin type and it’s needs. If you are oily, you will probably want a foundation that stays put during the day and controls the shine. If you are dry, you will benefit from a radiant or dewy foundation that won’t further dry and irritate the skin. What kind of coverage are you looking for? There is light, medium and full coverage. What kind of finish do you prefer? There is matte, natural, satin, radiant and dewy. I recommend going to your local Sephora (or wherever you buy your makeup from) and getting a couple of foundation samples. Give yourself 3 weeks of testing to really understand how they look and what you like best.
I should probably get into what this post is actually about. My tendency to ramble on is apparent even on my own blog. Before I get into the foundation, I should mention that my skin is dry and sensitive. I’m prone to Eczema breakouts during the winter months. Canadian winters are no joke! I prefer a light to medium coverage with a dewy or radiant finish.
And here it is, the guest of honour, True Skin Serum Foundation by Ilia. My shade is Salina. This foundation comes in 8 different shades. For more information on the shade range, visit Sephora
The foundation contains 30mL and it costs $69 (CAN).
The formula has skin care in it, which is a bonus for a skin care junkie like me! The foundation contains Aloe Leaf, Rose Hip, Jojoba, and Marula oils. It is noncomedogenic, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. It contains no Sulfates SLS and SLES, Parabens, Formaldehydes, Formaldehyde-releasing agents, Phthalates, Mineral oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Oxybenzone, Coal tar, Hydroquinone, Triclosan, Triclocarban.
This foundation has a very flexible coverage. It can be applied to achieve a light coverage but built up for a medium one as well. The finish is radiant but not dewy. If you want a glow, you will have to follow up with a cream or powder highlighter. The texture is really lovely, very creamy like a light moisturizer.
The photos above show how the foundation looks blended into my skin. Keep in mind that I used 1 pump of the foundation to achieve this coverage. Underneath the foundation, I am wearing the Perfecting Primer from Nude by Nature. As you can see, my beauty marks, freckles and a little bit of my redness shows through the foundation. True Skin Serum foundation perfects the skin, gives it radiance but it doesn’t hide it or make it look flat. Personally, this is what I think a foundation should do. I am really happy with this foundation and I would recommend it to anyone who has dry, combination and sensitive skin. This is also a wonderful choice for women with aging skin because it won’t make it look like you’re wearing a mask and the skin care ingredient list is a great touch!
